Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys has positively assessed the Armenian parliament’s vote on initiating the process of joining the European Union. This was stated in a press release from Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding a phone call between Budrys and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to the statement, the ministers discussed bilateral relations, regional cooperation formats, and opportunities to deepen ties with the EU, Armenpress reports.
"Minister Budrys welcomed the discussions in the Armenian parliament on strengthening Armenia-EU cooperation, as well as the successful first reading of the draft law on 'Initiating Armenia’s Accession to the European Union.' He emphasized the importance of Armenian institutions' consistent efforts in implementing democratic reforms," the statement reads.
During the conversation, the Lithuanian minister expressed his country's readiness to share its experience in key strategic areas such as economy, energy, trade diversification, border management, and countering hybrid threats.
Armenia’s Foreign Ministry also issued a statement on the meeting, noting that the sides discussed ongoing efforts to deepen Armenia-EU partnership, including active dialogue with EU member states.
Armenia's National Assembly has passed the first reading of the bill on launching the EU accession process. The draft received the support of 63 MPs from the ruling faction. Seven MPs from the opposition I Have Honor faction voted against, while members of the Armenia faction did not participate in the vote.
