The Armenian court has ruled in favor of seizing $1.6 million in damages from former tax officials involved in misconduct.
The Armenian General Prosecutor's Office announced that $1.6 million (equivalent to 629.61 million drams) will be confiscated from A.H., G.M., and B.A. as compensation for damages caused to the state.
During the trial of criminal case No. EKD/0050/01/16 in the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, it was revealed that G.M., the former deputy head of the Operative-Investigative Department of the State Tax Service, had instructed A.H., the head of the 6th division of the same department, along with operatives P.H. and B.A., to conduct improper inspections at a limited liability company.
As a result, an audit report dated November 22, 2007, imposed only 3.6 million drams in additional tax liabilities on the company, whereas the actual amount should have been 299.3 million drams.
In 2008, following instructions from A.H., operatives P.H. and B.A. conducted another inspection of the same company, but again failed to carry it out properly.
Consequently, an audit report dated December 30, 2008, recorded only 6 million drams in additional tax liabilities, while the actual amount should have been 330.3 million drams.
