Moscow to consider U.S. ceasefire proposal in eastern Ukraine

Moscow will consider Washington’s proposal for a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrei Kelin said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. His remarks were reported by TASS.

The diplomat stressed that a complete cessation of hostilities would only be possible after a comprehensive peace agreement is reached.

“We approach this with great caution. We will cease military operations when we achieve a full, comprehensive agreement,” he told journalists.

According to Kelin, Moscow remains skeptical about the feasibility of a truce due to previous experiences in negotiations with Kyiv.

On Tuesday, delegations from the U.S. and Ukraine met in Saudi Arabia. The Ukrainian president’s office released a joint statement from Kyiv and Washington following the talks, stating that Ukraine is willing to accept the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, with an option to extend it upon mutual agreement. The document also notes that the U.S. will immediately lift restrictions on intelligence sharing and resume military aid deliveries to Ukraine.
