UN refers concerns about Armenian captives to relevant offices

The United Nations has acknowledged receiving a letter concerning Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, sent by Mane Tandilyan, co-founder of the Country to Live party, during a March 14 protest at the UN office. In her Facebook post, Tandilyan shared that a response was received from Françoise Jacob, the UN’s Resident Coordinator in Armenia.

According to the letter, the concerns and message delivered during the protest were forwarded to appropriate UN bodies, including the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the office of the UN Secretary-General.

“In response, we have requested a meeting with Resident Coordinator Françoise Jacob to discuss the follow-up on our raised issues,” Tandilyan noted.

She emphasized: “We are demanding that the UN’s Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan urgently visit our captives in Baku and attend the ongoing 'trials' against them.”

*U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated he told Hikmet Hajiyev, the Azerbaijani President’s national security advisor, that captives should be released and a peace treaty with Armenia signed.

Attorney Jared Genser, representing Ruben Vardanyan, urged Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan to seriously consider statements by U.S. President Donald Trump and Mike Waltz.*
