AJARIA PRESIDENT STATES ARMENIAN ARMY SECOND IN CIS ON COMBAT CAPACITY AFTER THE RUSSIAN

Ajarian President, chairman of “Revival of Georgia” party Aslan Abashidze has come out with harsh criticism of the country President Eduard Shevardnadze. The Ajarian leader accused the head of the state in erroneous foreign policy. He holds up Armenia as the example, which, in his words, managed to maintain normal relations both with Russia and the United Stated due to the held complementary policy. “Look at the Armenian behavior. In this situation I would say it is brilliant and masterly. I mean the political moves, the degree of sincerity. Armenia looks for new partners – in the person of USA, Western and Asian states, but at the same time does not mar relations with Russia. The picture is just the opposite in Georgia,” – Abashidze stated. The Ajarian head asserts that the withdrawal of the Russian military bases from Batumi and Akhalkalaki will let Armenia “receive ample quantity of military equipment.” “Having a tried and tested, battle-worthy and mobile army, Armenia becomes the second powerful military force in Commonwealth of Independent States after Russia,” – Aslan Abashidze considers.
