Armenia’s Interagency Commission on Prisoners, Hostages, and Missing Persons held its latest session on June 11, chaired by Armen Abazyan, Director of the National Security Service of Armenia.
Opening the session, Abazyan highlighted the outcomes of recent meetings held by the Commission and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting comprehensive and coordinated efforts to clarify the fates of the missing.
Representatives of the Investigative Committee presented the Commission with findings from ongoing investigations into the circumstances of the disappearances.
Discussions then focused on enhancing the effectiveness of the Commission’s operations.
Concluding the session, Abazyan expressed hope that collaborative and well-coordinated efforts will yield tangible progress in uncovering the destinies of those still missing.
According to official data, 993 Armenians have been missing since the early 1990s. Around 200 Armenian soldiers went missing after the 2020 war. Since the war, Armenia has returned the bodies of 51 Azerbaijanis and the remains of 140 Azerbaijanis who died in the 1990s.
