Lawyer Ruben Melikyan announced on Facebook that 18-year-old Andranik Chamichyan, an avid airsoft player, may face two months in pre-trial detention.
“Due to his love for the game of airsoft, 18-year-old Andranik Chamichyan—who suffers from serious health problems—is now being prosecuted under heavy charges for ‘preparation of terrorism.’ The court decision on his two-month detention will be announced at 11:30 a.m. at the Ajapnyak Court,” Melikyan wrote.
He added: “Thanks to his airsoft equipment, this young man has become a defendant under a grave terrorism-related charge… No one knows who was allegedly being targeted or what ‘terrorism’ was supposedly being prepared.”
On July 10, law enforcement carried out early morning searches in the homes of several ARF members, including that of Hayastan faction MP Gegham Manukyan. His mobile phone was seized, and his son, Taron Manukyan, was arrested. Later, it was confirmed that seven individuals were detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
