Golden Apricot to open with French-designed carpet instead of red

The Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival will once again forgo its traditional red carpet. Instead, a unique designer carpet will be displayed at the opening ceremony, announced David Tursz, Executive Director of the French Institute in Armenia, during a press conference.

In 2024, the Golden Apricot festival officially discontinued the use of a red carpet for its opening. For the occasion, the AHA collective collaborated with artist Davit Kochunts to create a contemporary “red carpet” installation, reported Sputnik Armenia.

“Last year’s decision to replace the red carpet with carpets designed by Davit Kochunts turned out to be a success. It gave us new ideas for this year,” Tursz noted. “Those carpets are now in France and are part of an international exhibition.”

This year’s carpet has been designed by French designers Jean-François Dinqjian and Héloïse Chaffan from Normal Studio.

Tursz emphasized that the Golden Apricot festival plays an important role in fostering collaboration between Armenian and French filmmakers. According to him, the 2024 program includes several Armenian-French co-productions that reflect the success of this partnership.
