Accusations against ARFD lack legal basis, party says

ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) has firmly rejected terrorism-related claims brought against several of its members, describing them as politically motivated and legally unfounded. The party asserts that the accusations were designed to mislead and intimidate the public.

On July 13, ARF’s Supreme Body reported that several individuals previously detained “illegally” have been released, noting that none had formal charges due to “lack of legal grounds.”

Among those arrested was 18‑year‑old Andranik Chamichyan, who was held for two months despite only possessing legal items for a strikeball game. Another detainee, initially accused of organizing terrorism, saw that charge dropped after authorities found one grenade, and was instead arrested solely for unlawful possession of arms. ARF emphasizes that claims of “organized terrorism” were unfounded from the start and carried clear political undertones aimed at scaring citizens.

Defense attorneys representing the accused plan a press conference to present details of the case to the public.

Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee stated that five detainees were released after reaching the maximum pre-trial detention period, as the investigation continues, according to Factor.am .

On the morning of July 10, searches were conducted at homes of ARF members, following which seven individuals were detained and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
