Corruption charges filed against ex-mayor of Vagharshapat

Former mayor of Vagharshapat Diana Gasparyan has been charged. The exact legal articles under which she is accused remain undisclosed, RFE/RL reported.

The Anti-Corruption Committee has refused to comment on the case.

Gasparyan, 37, who had been involved in several controversies during her tenure, announced her resignation in May, stating she wanted to dedicate more time to her family after seven years in office.

In February, RFE/RL revealed that Gasparyan had signed a contract worth 13.6 million AMD with her father-in-law for compressed natural gas supplies. Following the publication, the Corruption Prevention Commission initiated a case on potential conflict of interest.

Previously, her husband's parents were implicated in an illegal construction case in Vagharshapat, which also led to a criminal investigation. Although the case was launched over a year ago, the Anti-Corruption Committee has reported that no charges have been filed yet.

Around the same period, discrepancies were found in the property and financial declaration of her husband Aramayis Mirzoyan, with declared amounts significantly diverging from his actual income. The most recent scandal involving her family occurred on the premises of a gas station owned by her father-in-law, where a murder took place.
