Avinyan elected head of Union of Communities

Tigran Avinyan, Mayor of Yerevan, has been unanimously elected President of the Union of Communities of Armenia during a session of the Union’s board.

In his remarks, Avinyan thanked the board for their trust and emphasized that the Union's mission is to foster self-sufficient and developing communities.

“Local self-government is a cornerstone of democracy. It allows communities to independently determine their development directions, respond to residents’ needs, and shape their future with their own resources. This model is not just a legal framework, but a practical necessity for modern and efficient governance.

We believe that cooperation between state structures and communities must be based on mutual trust and responsibility. This platform is crucial for strengthening the autonomy and financial sustainability of communities, representing and defending their interests, and jointly enhancing local self-governance,” the mayor stated, according to the Yerevan Municipality.

In the second part of the session, the board discussed the Union's priorities and key directions for the remainder of the year.
