The Armenian government has approved a 3.408 billion dram budget reallocation plan to support the construction, renovation, and equipping of around 300 schools and 500 kindergartens. The initiative also includes upgrades to educational institutions specializing in artificial intelligence and modernization of high schools.
According to Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, approximately 2 billion drams will be directed to building schools and educational complexes—1.3 billion drams for schools and 700 million for complexes. Another 545 million drams will go toward exchange rate adjustments in loan servicing.
Reconstruction efforts will focus on four high schools in Yerevan, Artashat, Ashtarak, and Vanadzor, while additional funds will help expand school laboratories and establish new preschools. Some 120.6 million drams will fund furniture for 61 kindergartens either completed or nearing completion.
A rapid response fund will receive 40 million drams to address urgent issues in 25 schools, including storm and hail damage sustained in June in Aragatsotn, Lori, and Shirak provinces.
The plan also supports the expansion of the school-based AI curriculum, launched in 2023 by the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST). Fifteen schools from seven provinces took part last year, with nationwide rollout expected in 2024–2025.
Additionally, 42 schools will be converted into examination centers for teacher certification and other administrative uses, equipped with necessary technical upgrades. Andreasyan emphasized that current funding will be allocated under general budget lines, with specific allocations based on third-quarter evaluations.
She highlighted that the plan allows for more flexible and efficient construction oversight.
“This will enable more adaptive management to ensure efficiency in supporting construction,” she stated.
