Government ends solar panel subsidy

As of July 1, 2025, Armenia’s government has officially ended the solar panel subsidy program, which supported interest rate subsidies on loans for installing solar systems in homes, under the broader Energy Efficiency Renovation Program.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure explained that there are no plans to restart the program or launch a new one, due to the “extremely fast-paced growth” of solar energy in Armenia, which has caused “serious issues in the energy system.”

According to the ministry, the sharp rise in solar installations—partly due to the success of the subsidy program—has led to systemic disruptions, making further subsidization unsustainable for now.

Regarding a potential reboot of the broader energy renovation program (excluding the solar component), the ministry stated there is currently no decision or clarity on the matter.

The terminated program allowed residents to install solar systems with subsidized loans, starting from 0% interest, up to a 10 million AMD limit.
