The health of 18-year-old Andranik Chamichyan, detained in connection with the so-called “airsoft case,” has deteriorated, lawyer Ruben Melikyan reported via Facebook.
“Yesterday, Andranik’s parents visited him and informed me that his health has worsened. He suffers from a serious heart condition, which previously led to a military draft deferment,” Melikyan stated.
The lawyer has submitted appeals to both the head of the penitentiary facility and the director of the state medical agency overseeing inmate health.
“I am hopeful, even confident, that the penitentiary institution will ensure proper medical attention for Andranik,” Melikyan added.
Chamichyan was arrested for two months after being found in possession of airsoft equipment and is facing charges of preparing an act of terrorism.
On the morning of July 10, searches were conducted in the homes of members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF). Seven individuals were arrested and taken to the Investigative Committee of Armenia; most were released days later.
