The statue of legendary chansonnier and National Hero of Armenia Charles Aznavour has been entirely financed by the Yerevan city budget, Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan stated during a city government session, according to Radar Armenia.
“We allocated around 85 million drams. The sculpture is titled ‘La Bohème,’ not only based on the famous song of the same name but also deeply tied to Aznavour’s stage persona,” said the Deputy Mayor.
The statue, created by sculptor Davit Minasyan, was unveiled in Yerevan’s Charles Aznavour Square, in front of the Moscow Cinema.
Aznavour’s son, Nicolas Aznavour, founder and chairman of the Aznavour Foundation, spoke at the statue unveiling ceremony in Yerevan’s Aznavour Square about his father’s deep emotional bond with Armenia.
