Karapetyan’s son urges compliance with Stockholm ruling

Karen Karapetyan, son of detained businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, issued a statement calling on Armenian authorities to comply with the ruling of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) regarding Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), according to Panorama.am.

“Hey little ones, if you're so committed to the European path, then comply with the Stockholm ruling. Judges there don’t care about Facebook posts. Unlike Armen Danielyan and other judges who obey your orders, in Stockholm no one gives orders to judges,” he wrote.

Samvel Karapetyan, who is currently under two-month detention, and his family have won an urgent arbitration case against the Armenian government, which had attempted to nationalize ENA.

On July 22, 2025, the SCC issued a decision obliging Armenia not to apply recent provisions of the Law on Energy and Law on the Public Services Regulatory Commission to Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC. It also ordered the government to cease further actions toward the potential seizure of ENA.

In response, the Armenian government acknowledged the ruling, noting that “the scope of the dispute differs from the goals of appointing a temporary administrator.” It stressed that while the ruling is respected, all parties must also follow Armenian legislation.
