Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia met with Patriarch John X Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch, condemning the terrorist attack that took place several weeks ago at the Orthodox Church in Damascus. He extended condolences to the Patriarch and the families of the victims.
Aram I emphasized the imperative of unity among Christian communities, according to the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia.
The two spiritual leaders underscored the importance of Christians remaining an integral part of Syria, staying committed to their communities and civic responsibilities.
On June 22, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt inside the Saint Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus during mass. The attack killed more than 20 people and injured about 25 others.
