Archbishop Bagrat laughs off group lawsuit reports

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Sacred Struggle movement, has responded to news about a group lawsuit allegedly being prepared against him by Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, in a letter published from the Yerevan-Kentron penitentiary of the National Security Service.

The lawsuit concerns Archbishop’s use of the phrase “a profoundly stupid nation” in a recording released by the Investigative Committee.

In his letter, he said he learned about the potential legal action from his lawyer, Mr. Khudoyan, as reported by Factor.am.

"The queen of farce… I learned from my lawyer, Mr. Khudoyan, that a member of the group engaging in information terrorism — not particularly prominent but clearly aspiring to be — is launching some kind of legal process against me for allegedly ‘insulting the people’. That member happens to be the current ‘minister’ of health, Anahit Avanesyan. I laugh out loud…

First, I would suggest that Ms. Avanesyan clarify, together with her ‘lamentable’ predecessor A.T., whatever became of the COVID investigation…

However, that is not the purpose of this letter. I simply wish to advise — or if you prefer, insist — that Ms. Avanesyan make time to read (beyond Facebook posts, perhaps something more serious) my book titled ‘The Healthcare System of Armenia: Past, Present and Perspectives (Biomedical, Ethical and Theological View)’. If she cannot find it, I’m confident she can locate a copy via Google from Concordia University Library in Montreal. The healthcare system of Armenia: past, present and perspectives (biomedical, ethical and theological view). Perhaps it might help her a little before she brings about the total collapse of the sector. As for being judged — that is inevitable, for victory is non-negotiable,” he wrote.

"We also feel offended by such disrespectful language toward the people. There are thousands like me who feel insulted," Avanesyan said earlier when commenting on the group lawsuit against Archbishop Bagrat.
