95% of hepatitis C patients treated in last 4 years

Between December 2020 and January 2025, 3,300 people in Armenia diagnosed with hepatitis C received treatment, with a 95% recovery rate, according to Marine Harutyunyan, head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Policy and Medical Technologies at the Ministry of Health.

She told reporters that when diagnosed early and treated with the correct medication, hepatitis C can be cured in 95% of cases. In later-detected cases, the success rate drops to around 75%, reports Sputnik Armenia.

Harutyunyan also noted that due to the administration of hepatitis B vaccines, no cases of the disease have been recorded among children under 18.

To mark World Hepatitis Day, Armenia’s National Center for Infectious Diseases has launched a series of events across Yerevan and several provinces, including free testing and consultations. A mobile diagnostic unit for HIV, hepatitis, AIDS, and syphilis will operate today in Freedom Square, Yerevan; tomorrow in Gyumri; and on June 30 in Vanadzor.
