Yerevan discusses water supply, drainage issues

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Vardan Kostanyan held a working meeting with Yerevan Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan and several sector specialists.

The meeting aimed to enhance the quality of drinking water supply and drainage services in Yerevan.

Discussions addressed current issues related to water outages, as well as the potential modernization of sewer and stormwater systems.

With representatives of the municipality in attendance, the agenda also included a project to implement an integrated solid waste management system throughout Armenia.

Officials presented steps approved by the government's Decision No. 143-N dated February 13, 2025, which aims to divide the country into three waste management zones and establish integrated systems within them.

In this context, the ministry proposed considering Yerevan’s solid waste management reforms as part of the national integrated system to ensure a comprehensive approach across the country.

The meeting was attended by Kamo Areyan, adviser to the Mayor of Yerevan; Aneta Babayan, head of Yerevan’s urban development investment programs office; Karen Sedrakyan, head of the Water Committee; Deputy Chair David Mkrtchyan; Marianna Shahinyan, CEO of Veolia Djur; and Narine Avetyan, head of the Ministry’s Department for Territorial Program Support and Solid Waste Management.
