Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, is no longer under house arrest and will now be under administrative supervision. This update was shared by his lawyer Tigran Atanesyan on Facebook.
"Just now, I was informed by the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals that the appeals filed by myself and defense attorney H. Martirosyan were partially granted, and Armen Ashotyan’s house arrest has been lifted. Administrative oversight has been imposed instead, though the conditions are not yet known.
The court decision will be available to us on Monday. I was also informed that a copy of the decision has already been sent to the Probation Service," Atanesyan wrote.
Ashotyan spent 777 days in detention, including 15 months in solitary confinement at the Nubarashen prison. "It seems the political imprisonment is ending, but the politically motivated prosecution in a fabricated criminal case continues," Atanesyan added.
Ashotyan was arrested in June 2023 as part of an investigation into alleged abuses at the Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi. He was suspected of violating the conditions of his pretrial restrictions. He has been charged with abuse of official position and money laundering, offenses that reportedly caused significant harm.
