Singer slams Lopez concert amid refugee crisis

Renowned Armenian singer Anna Mayilyan voiced strong criticism on Facebook regarding Jennifer Lopez’s recent concert in Yerevan, questioning how any artist could perform in Armenia knowing that 120,000 people have been displaced from their homeland.

“No matter how I try to rationalize it, I simply don’t understand how any artist can come here, knowing that 120,000 people were expelled from their homeland and are still struggling to find shelter in the Motherland. Many live in rented homes—why? Have they found work? What is the state of their children? And locals are also in a desperate situation,” she wrote.

Mayilyan questioned whether Lopez had been informed about Armenia’s current circumstances and cultural heritage, suggesting that as a mature artist, she should have asked questions. She expressed outrage over the reported $37,000 allocated for Lopez’s team’s meals: “What could they possibly eat for that much? Alien meat from space? It’s shameful. Absolutely shameful.”

She concluded: “Maybe this ‘star’ is just that naïve, but it’s horrifying. I hope this reaches her.”

Meanwhile, Armenian singer Iveta Mukuchyan revealed that her planned opening act for Lopez’s concert was canceled at the last moment by Lopez’s team. According to a report by Aravot.am and Mukuchyan’s own Instagram story, Lopez’s representatives decided she was “too close to J.Lo” and suggested using a DJ or other option instead.

“I had already prepared a unique opening show for Jennifer Lopez’s concert in Yerevan, but my performance was canceled last-minute with this explanation. I see it as a compliment. Now I’ll enjoy the concert in peace,” Mukuchyan commented.

Jennifer Lopez’s concert in Yerevan drew over 30,000 attendees, including nearly 15,000 international visitors.
