On the evening of June 12, 2024, clashes erupted near Armenia’s National Assembly between police and protesters from the Tavush for the Homeland movement demanding the prime minister’s resignation. Police used stun grenades, and 101 individuals were injured, including officers. The Investigative Committee launched a criminal case over alleged organization and execution of mass disturbances at the intersection of Baghramyan and Demirchyan streets.
Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan described the events as "an attack on the National Assembly, democracy, and Armenia's sovereignty and independence, and a display of helplessness."
Archbishop Bagrat, in contrast, labeled the police actions as "terrorism" against peaceful demonstrators and citizens present in a nearby park.
