The pre-trial restrictions on David Sargsyan, mayor of Stepanakert, and five members of the city council have been lifted. The update was shared by lawyer Ruben Melikyan on his Facebook page.
“Today marked another court hearing in the ‘Stepanakert case.’ The defendants include the mayor of the capital of Artsakh and five council members. The court completed its examination of evidence presented by the prosecution. Afterward, we filed a motion to revoke the restriction barring the accused from leaving their residences. After hearing both sides, the court granted our request,” Melikyan wrote.
He emphasized that the mayor has been under persecution since June 2024, starting with imprisonment, followed by house arrest, and then nearly five months under a partial house arrest regime.
On May 27, 2024, David Sargsyan was arrested for 20 days on charges of large-scale fraud committed by a group, document forgery, and use of forged documents involving three individuals. On June 13, a two-month house arrest order was issued against him.
