Spartakyan dismissed as honorary consul in Yekaterinburg

Narek Spartakyan has been officially relieved of his duties as Armenia’s Honorary Consul in Yekaterinburg, according to a confirmation from the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Earlier, the Russian outlet Ura.ru reported on potential reasons behind Spartakyan's dismissal, suggesting that it stemmed from his disagreement with the Armenian leadership’s stance toward the Armenian Apostolic Church and the arrest of businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

“Narek Spartakyan has been dismissed from his duties as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Yekaterinburg/Sverdlovsk Region of the Russian Federation,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

The ministry did not provide any further details and also refrained from answering whether the decision was linked to Spartakyan’s disagreement with official policy.

Spartakyan had held the honorary consul position since 2018.

Spartakyan had previously stated that “any action against the Armenian Apostolic Church is unacceptable, as it is a fundamental element of spiritual unity for all Armenians.” Regarding Karapetyan’s arrest, he said: “Like all Armenians, I deeply respect the businessman, as he is a vivid example of how to build and create.”
