The U.S. Embassy in Armenia has stated that traveling to the United States on a tourist visa with the primary intent of giving birth—so that the child obtains U.S. citizenship—is not allowed.
In a message posted on the embassy’s official Facebook page, it was emphasized that “a consular officer may deny a visa if they believe the applicant’s main purpose for traveling to the U.S. is to give birth.”
This announcement serves as a warning to those considering "birth tourism," a practice whereby foreign nationals travel to the U.S. solely to deliver a child and thereby secure American citizenship for the newborn.
