Armenian government dissolves Alliance free economic zone

The Alliance free economic zone, operating in the areas of Mars and Mergelyan plants, will be dissolved following a decision made at a cabinet meeting.

The zone was established by a government resolution adopted on July 18, 2013, and became operational on August 14, 2013, for an initial term of 10 years.

After the initial term expired, the Alliance FEZ was extended by one year each in 2023 and 2024, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Its main declared functions were industrial and technological activities based on the development directions specified by the managing organization.

As the second extension has now expired, the organization submitted a new request to extend the zone’s activity from 2025 to 2035, along with a business development plan.

The proposal was sent to the Interagency Commission on Free Economic Zones, which evaluated it and gave an average score of 60.83 points. However, three commission members gave scores below 60.

According to current regulations, if a proposal receives a failing score from at least three evaluators, it results in a negative conclusion.

Therefore, the Interagency Commission decided to reject the request to extend the Alliance FEZ’s term by ten years, leading to its dissolution.
