POW issue not reflected in signed documents: Pashinyan

Following the signing of the trilateral declaration with Azerbaijan and the U.S. in Washington, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters that the issue of prisoners of war had been discussed and raised at the highest level.

He noted that humanitarian matters are inherently complex: “If that were not the case, they would have been resolved long ago.”

“Our documents do not reflect this, but I want you to know that very significant and important conversations have taken place on humanitarian issues as well. The POW topic has been discussed and raised at the highest level. I will not go into the details of these discussions given past experience. I will refrain from providing details until there are results. Unfortunately, at this moment, there are no tangible results. But it is clear that we have raised, are raising, and will continue to raise these issues at the highest level,” he said.

Pashinyan added that humanitarian issues cannot be solved in isolation: “The historical progress we have recorded is precisely what will lead to the resolution of humanitarian problems. These issues are complicated—if they were not, they would have been solved long ago.”

He stressed that the government will remain committed to resolving these matters.
