Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation.
During the call, Pashinyan presented the results of the August 8 talks in Washington, D.C., including the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the joint appeal to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) regarding the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group mechanisms, the unblocking of regional communications within the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction of the states, on a reciprocal basis, and the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project.
Pashinyan stressed that “achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan could serve as a basis for a new level of regional cooperation.”
The leaders also addressed issues on the Armenia–Turkey bilateral agenda, including the implementation of previously reached agreements. The Prime Minister noted that the environment for implementing these agreements is now more favorable than ever. Both sides agreed to continue active political dialogue.
According to the Turkish side, Erdogan congratulated Pashinyan on the agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan, describing the demonstrated will for peace as valuable for regional stability. He emphasized that this step should now be translated into concrete actions. Erdogan added that technical-level discussions and efforts to advance the process of normalizing relations between Turkey and Armenia would continue.
On August 8, a trilateral meeting took place at the White House between Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Following the meeting, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on Establishing Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States.
