On August 11, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke by phone with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Baron, focusing on the August 8 agreements. Mirzoyan emphasized the initialing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty as a crucial milestone in the process.
He noted that on August 11, Armenia and Azerbaijan’s joint application and draft decision on dissolving the OSCE Minsk process and related structures were circulated among OSCE participating states.
Mirzoyan and Baron exchanged views on the unprecedented opportunities for connectivity that could result from implementing the agreement on unblocking regional communications, benefiting countries in and beyond the region. The Armenian minister expressed gratitude for France’s congratulations and continued support.
Mirzoyan also held a phone call with European Commission Vice-President and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. He underlined the significance of the peace treaty’s initialing, calling it one of the most important stages in normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations to date.
He highlighted the agreement on unblocking regional communications, in particular the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project, which he said could greatly expand connectivity in the South Caucasus and beyond. Mirzoyan thanked Kallas for the EU’s congratulations, and the two discussed ways to deepen Armenia-EU cooperation and ensure inclusivity in regional initiatives.
On August 8, at the White House, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration on the results of their trilateral meeting. In the presence of the leaders, Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
