Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, discussing the outcomes of the August 8 meetings in Washington. The talks covered agreements on unblocking and developing regional communications, as well as the follow-up work required.
Mirzoyan stressed that, as Armenia has repeatedly stated, and as reflected in the Washington Declaration, all infrastructure operations — including those built in Armenia with American partnership — will take place within the framework of the countries’ territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction.
He thanked Araghchi for his principled remarks regarding the Washington agreements. The two ministers also exchanged views on preparing for upcoming consultations and high-level contacts between Armenia and Iran.
Earlier, Araghchi had stated that regarding documents signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Iran had maintained continuous contacts with both sides. He emphasized that “the corridor issue is closed; it concerns an Armenian transit road” to be built under Armenia’s sovereignty and jurisdiction by a U.S.-Armenian company registered in Armenia and operating under Armenian law. He also cautioned that any foreign presence in the region could have negative implications for peace and stability.
