Unemployment in Armenia declined to 14% in the first quarter of 2025, down from 15.5% a year earlier, according to the Statistical Committee.
Labor force participation and employment rates rose to 58.2% and 50.1%, respectively, compared to 57.7% and 48.7% in 2024, reports Factor.am .
In absolute terms, the number of unemployed dropped from 204,400 to 188,200, including 102,800 men and 85,400 women.
As of the end of June 2025, there were 36,654 officially registered unemployed—22,185 women and 14,469 men—almost evenly split between urban (18,561) and rural (18,093) areas.
The largest group among them is aged 35–44, accounting for 12,244 people, followed by 45–54-year-olds (about 8,079) and those over 55 (6,110). The unemployment rate is relatively lower among 16–34-year-olds.
A total of 9,891 young people aged 16–29 are seeking work, most of them in Ararat and Kotayk provinces. Data for the first quarter of 2024–2025 are preliminary.
The figures cover permanent residents of Armenia aged 15–74 who, at the time of the survey:
- were employed in a resident economic unit in Armenia or a non-resident economic unit abroad (national employment rate);
- were unemployed, without work, and seeking a job in Armenia or abroad (national unemployment rate);
- were neither employed nor unemployed, thus outside the labor force (national rate).
