In the case of the fatal collision involving Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s motorcade, which struck pregnant Sona Mnatsakanyan, the victim’s family is seeking 10 million drams in compensation, Pastinfo reports.
On July 30, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Karen Farhoyan, issued a guilty verdict against Aram Navasardyan in connection with the incident.
At today’s court hearing, the issue of Navasardyan’s sentence was discussed. The victim’s father, Mnatsakan Mnatsakanyan, petitioned the court to address the compensation claim — 10 million drams to cover his daughter’s funeral and burial expenses.
He told the court that Navasardyan made no effort to save his daughter: “They didn’t help, they exceeded the speed limit. After the incident, they left the site,” he said.
The trial will continue on August 18.
After the hearing, Navasardyan refused to answer reporters’ questions, stating only that he had no comment and that he did not consider himself guilty.
Speaking to journalists, Mnatsakan Mnatsakanyan responded to Pashinyan’s earlier statement that he had been a passenger in the car, saying that the issue was not about an individual but about negligence in the state governance system. He argued that if the safety of the motorcade’s route had been ensured in advance, the incident could have been avoided.
“Can one be so careless in everything? What does it mean that the recordings are lost, missing?” he said, adding that speeding by Navasardyan had been proven, and that the tragedy could have been prevented if necessary measures had been taken.
He stressed that while the driver is definitely guilty, he is not the only one responsible.
On April 26, 2022, at around 18:05, one of the cars in Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government motorcade struck 28-year-old pregnant Sona Mnatsakanyan at the intersection of Leo, Paronyan, and Proshyan streets. She was taken to Nairi Medical Center but died without regaining consciousness. The life of the unborn child could not be saved either.
