In an interview with Fox News, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the declaration signed in Washington on August 8 could have far-reaching regional and global implications.
He emphasized that reopening regional transit routes would serve the interests of all countries involved, including Iran and Russia.
“I believe the declaration offers tangible benefits for Iran and Russia as well,” said Pashinyan. “Once implemented, for example, Iran could gain rail access from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea, and Iran and Russia could be directly connected by rail.”
Pashinyan noted that the economic dimension of the agreement would not only benefit Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., but also Turkey, Russia, and Iran.
“This is an important agreement that can deliver major advantages to the entire international community in terms of stability and security,” he added.
The prime minister also reiterated his proposal for the Crossroads of Peace initiative, calling it a platform for cooperation and peace.
“We don’t want to provoke disagreements or tension. Our goal is to promote stability, peace, and sustained development, both economic and political. I believe yesterday’s declaration offers a strong and fitting platform for that,” said Pashinyan.
On August 8, a joint declaration was signed at the White House following a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also pre-signed an agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations.
