The Hayakve civic initiative, commenting on the documents signed in Washington by Armenia, the U.S., and Azerbaijan, stated that Armenia “in no way benefits” from the trilateral memorandum.
According to Aysor.am , the group argued it is unclear whether Armenia will even receive any potential gains outlined in the agreement.
“Experience shows that every document signed with Azerbaijan in this period extracts one-sided obligations from Armenia. The best example is the November 9, 2020 agreement, in which Armenia over-fulfilled all its commitments, while Azerbaijan violated every single one,” the statement read.
The group pointed to Azerbaijan’s pledge to ensure unimpeded movement through the Lachin (Berdzor) corridor and to keep its forces in positions held at the end of the war—commitments that were later broken.
“For example, on September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack on Artsakh. Such examples are numerous,” the statement added.
On August 8, a joint declaration was signed at the White House following a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also pre-signed an agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations.
