Ex-PM rejects charges, says case is baseless

Former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, whose criminal case is being heard today at the Anti-Corruption Court, stated during a press briefing that he does not accept the charges brought against him.

When asked whether the case's revival is connected to an alleged meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Abrahamyan responded that no such meeting ever took place, and advised reporters to direct the rest of their questions to the authorities, as reported by Panorama.am .

Abrahamyan also expressed concern over the actions being taken against businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

When a journalist noted that he hadn’t participated in court hearings or protests related to Karapetyan’s case, Abrahamyan explained: “You know why I wasn’t there—I was under administrative detention.” He added, “In general, the steps being taken against him concern me, and every unjust decision will be punished.”

On the topic of attacks against the church, Abrahamyan said that like many others, he too finds the issue troubling, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Abrahamyan is being prosecuted for abuse of power and alleged legalization of property—specifically land—believed to have criminal origins. He was arrested on June 13, placed under house arrest the next day, and in late July, his restriction was changed to administrative supervision.
