Minister assures work on captives and missing continues

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan assured that the government is continuing active work on the issues of captives and missing persons, stressing that consistent measures have been taken, resulting in the return of several captives to Armenia and clarification in certain cases of missing persons. He made these remarks in response to journalists’ questions about concerns raised by Artsakh residents following the resignation of former NSS chief Armen Abazyan.

“In the peace agreement, which has already been coordinated and initialed, there is a special provision on this very issue. This shows how important it is, as one of the agreement’s points specifically addresses it,” Papoyan said, as quoted by AuroraNews.

Asked why the issue of Armenian captives unlawfully held in Baku was not included in the peace treaty, the minister responded: “All questions have been addressed and are in the process of being resolved. Just as we have managed to bring back captives on previous occasions, I assure you that the work continues, and we will achieve success with the remaining cases as well.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also addressed the matter in his statement, noting that no specific provision on captives was included in the peace treaty, as Yerevan did not want to link the issue to the signing of the document. He emphasized that active diplomatic work is currently underway in that direction.
