Officers from Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) have prevented the smuggling of 510 grams of methamphetamine into the country through the Agarak border checkpoint.
Authorities had received intelligence indicating that a citizen of Armenia was planning to smuggle illegal drugs into the country. As a result of operational and intelligence-gathering activities, it was suspected that the individual would attempt to bring drugs into Armenia via the Agharak crossing point. The suspect was placed under surveillance.
SRC customs officers inspected the luggage belonging to a person identified as G.T. During the customs check, two transparent polyethylene packages containing a white, crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine were discovered inside two pillows found in the individual’s belongings. The total weight of the substance was 510 grams.
Due to the presence of strong and immediate suspicion of drug smuggling, the citizen was detained and handed over to the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, which has initiated criminal proceedings.
