In Armenia, citizens with electric vehicles will be able to charge their cars without signing a separate subscription contract for charging stations. The proposed amendments to the Law on Energy, co-authored by Civil Contract faction MPs Tsovinar Vardanyan, Arusyak Manavazyan, and Alen Simonyan, have been approved by the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and will soon be discussed at a plenary session.
According to the draft, if electricity consumption during charging does not exceed the permissible load (10 kW) and does not trigger a circuit breaker, charging will be possible without installing a new meter. This means charging can be done using the existing household meter, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The same provisions extend to businesses: shop or café owners will also be able to install chargers without requiring a new contract.
Opposition MP Tadevos Avetisyan (Hayastan Alliance) noted, however, that the draft does not address the issue of unauthorized connections from apartments to garages. He warned that in many courtyards, electrical wires are installed haphazardly, creating safety risks for residents, and urged lawmakers to include this matter in the legislative package.
In addition, the bill clarifies the status of autonomous power plants of up to 500 kW built between 2018 and 2022. Under the new provisions, the maximum permitted capacity for such plants will now be set at 150 kW.
