According to the Union of Informed Citizens (UIC), approximately 4,200 people participated in the rally held at Freedom Square in Yerevan on September 2. The attendance estimate was based on aerial footage.
The rally, dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Artsakh, began at 6:30 p.m. at Freedom Square.
UIC carried out an aerial participant count to determine the actual turnout. According to their data, as of 7:31 p.m., around 4,200 people were present in Freedom Square and the surrounding areas.
The count was conducted based on individual headcounts. A detailed version of the count, using unique identification points, was also provided and made available for download to verify accuracy.
On September 2, 1991, a joint session of deputies from the regional councils of Stepanakert and Shahumyan declared the formation of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. A referendum was held later that year, on December 10, confirming independence, with over 80% turnout and more than 99% voting in favor.
