Public activist Arthur Chakhoyan questioned the legitimacy of the renovation project at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan. Writing on Facebook, he said the works were unjustified and amounted to “yet another embezzlement scheme.”
According to Chakhoyan, even the memorial’s director acknowledged the validity of concerns raised about violations documented in official papers and the failure to meet contractual deadlines.
The second phase of the renovation, launched about two months ago, focuses on repairing the slanted columns of the Hall of Eternity.
The project has stirred widespread controversy online. Former director of the Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan, staged a protest at Tsitsernakaberd, warning that the renovation was causing irreparable damage under the guise of restoration. Architect Anahit Tarkhanyan also shared footage showing how stones were being removed by breaking them apart, calling the work careless and destructive.
