The documentary “I Will Avenge Through Love – S. Parajanov,” produced for the centennial of acclaimed director Sergei Parajanov, will be featured in special festival programs in the United States for the first time.
According to Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, the film’s U.S. premiere will take place on September 14 at the New Jersey International Film Festival, followed by a special screening on September 20 at the Seattle Film Festival.
Produced by Armenia and France through “Boomerang Media.am,” the film made its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and has since been showcased at prestigious events, including those in Ghent, Belgium, and Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The documentary was created with support from Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the Armenian National Cinema Foundation (formerly National Cinema Center), France’s CNC (National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image), and the French network Cine+.
Producers Ani Vorskanian (“AVA Films”) and Zara Zhan (“Boomerang Media.am”) led the project, with Stéphane Jourdain co-producing on the French side.
As part of a six-month collaboration with Zara Zhan, festival organizers developed a special program titled “Kino Armenia: Triad of Past and Present” (https://tinyurl.com/3az5wct8), featuring three films by Armenian directors: Sergei Parajanov’s “The Color of Pomegranates,” Atom Egoyan’s “Calendar,” and Zara Zhan’s “I Will Avenge Through Love.”
The program aims to build a cultural bridge between past and present, while highlighting the richness and artistic diversity of Armenian cinema.
In addition to the film screenings, the Seattle events will include concerts by Armenian musicians, an exhibition on Armenian art, and a thematic section dedicated to Parajanov’s legacy.
