Ruben Rubinyan, Armenia’s special representative in the normalization process with Turkey and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, told reporters that during his upcoming meeting in Yerevan with Turkey’s envoy Serdar Kılıç, the full agenda of Armenia-Turkey relations will be discussed.
“The main topic is the normalization of relations. The entire process centers on opening the closed border and establishing diplomatic relations. Discussions mainly revolve around this,” he said, as reported by Aysor.am.
Rubinyan emphasized that Armenia sees no valid reason for Turkey to delay the opening of the border or the establishment of diplomatic ties, Armenpress reports.
“I don’t see why Turkey should hesitate on this issue. At least from the Armenian side, there is no such hesitation. We’re ready to have open borders and established diplomatic relations as soon as tomorrow. Recently, we also established diplomatic ties with Pakistan, which was a significant development. I hope we can take a similar step with Turkey,” Rubinyan stated.
He noted that when there is political will, the process can become a reality in a short period.
“Our side clearly has that will, and I’m confident that substantial progress can be achieved quickly,” he added.
Rubinyan reiterated that Armenia continues the dialogue without any preconditions.
“We’ve repeatedly stated that the process is proceeding without preconditions. We have none on our side and believe it’s possible to achieve open borders and diplomatic relations swiftly. We will continue working in that direction,” he concluded.
As part of the Armenia-Turkey normalization process, a meeting between special representatives Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kılıç is expected in Armenia in the coming days. This was confirmed by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan.
The last meeting of the special envoys took place from April 11 to 13 during a diplomatic forum in Antalya, attended by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan.
