Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan presented draft amendments to the Law on Language in parliament, noting that the requirement for mandatory Armenian translation of foreign films could come into force as early as 2026, instead of 2030, Sputnik Armenia reports.
Andreasyan recalled that under amendments made to the Law on Cinematography in 2021, the rule was set to apply starting in 2030. However, the ministry considers that date too late and intends to push for new legislation to bring the deadline forward to 2026.
According to the minister, the format of translation—voice dubbing or subtitles—as well as the specific platforms of application, such as cinemas or television, will be decided after further consultations.
