Kostanyan, new UK envoy review strategic dialogue

Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan received the newly appointed UK Ambassador to Armenia, Alexandra Pamela Coley, who presented copies of her credentials.

The two sides reviewed the results of the second round of the Armenia–UK Strategic Dialogue, held in Yerevan on August 26, 2025, and outlined future plans.

Both officials expressed satisfaction with the consistent development of Armenian–British relations and reaffirmed their commitment to raising cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership.

Kostanyan also briefed the ambassador on the agreements reached in Washington regarding the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Armenia’s vision for the institutionalization of peace.

Meanwhile, on September 3, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced the suspension of its mission in Azerbaijan following a government decision that Baku would itself oversee communication between detainees and their families. Armenian lawyer Siranush Sahakyan told the European Court of Human Rights that suicide attempts have been reported among Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijani jails. On September 2, Linda Euljekjian, the wife of detainee Vicken Euljekjian, appealed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the international community, warning that her husband had been on hunger strike for 20 days and urgently required medical care.
