Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan announced in parliament that the ministry will file lawsuits against “individuals spreading misinformation about the ongoing renovation of the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.”
According to Andreasyan, the lawsuits will be filed soon, and the process will clarify which parts of the circulated claims reflect reality, Sputnik Armenia reports.
“People must be held accountable for what they say, especially when it comes to absurd, false, defamatory, and targeted actions that repeatedly violate dignity,” she stated.
Andreasyan emphasized that the renovation work is under her personal supervision. She noted that in over 60 years, no major renovation had taken place at the site, and the drainage system had accumulated serious issues. She also recalled that in 2015, “rushed and hasty” work had been conducted in the area.
“In the 10-year-old museum building, there are issues that simply should not exist, because ten years is not a time frame where such problems should emerge,” she added.
According to the minister, the current efforts aim to bring both the memorial and the museum to a proper condition. Both sites remain open to visitors, who can see the progress for themselves.
Previously, former director of the Armenian Genocide Institute-Museum Hayk Demoyan wrote that the construction company handling the renovations lacked appropriate licenses and experience, and that the quality of many works was questionable. He also stated that some disassembly of the monument was done without proper oversight, allegedly causing serious, and in some cases, irreparable damage.
