Mesrop Arakelyan, co-founder of the Country to Live party, stated in a Facebook post that extremist tendencies in Armenia’s political field are unacceptable, especially from the perspective of society.
He stressed that what the public needs is a genuine political force capable of presenting a realistic picture of the state’s development.
“Extremist positions in the political arena are unacceptable, first and foremost for society. The authorities’ claim that ‘the country has never been this sovereign’ and some oppositionists’ claim that ‘the country is losing its statehood’ are both lies—people know it well. Such extremes cause broad disillusionment with the entire political field,” he wrote.
Arakelyan noted that the same approach has been visible in reactions to football: some opposition figures declared Armenian football ‘destroyed’ after a loss to Portugal, while the authorities proclaimed its ‘rebirth’ following a victory.
“In reality, Armenia has a middle-level national team, with both successes and failures—just as in many other fields. What society needs is a real political force that reflects the country’s true opportunities and challenges without extremes. The ‘Country to Live’ party is moving along the path of building that force,” Arakelyan concluded.
