The Armenian government has approved the venue for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity. The event will take place at Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan, Sputnik Armenia reports.
A state procurement contract will be signed with Meridian Holding CJSC to provide services for the event. The government also announced the establishment of an organizing committee responsible for the preparation and conduct of the summit.
During a March 3–6, 2025 visit to Yerevan, a delegation led by Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention, evaluated possible venues. According to the government’s statement, Schomaker confirmed that Meridian Expo best met the requirements for hosting COP 17.
To ensure proper organization, the 2025 state budget will be adjusted to allocate 5.775 billion drams for construction, renovation, and landscaping at the venue.
COP 17 in Armenia is scheduled for October 18–30, 2026.
