NA speaker says Pashinyan-Putin meeting likely

Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan confirmed that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s upcoming trip to Moscow will likely include a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to reporters, Simonyan said he believed such a meeting was inevitable if the visit was official or working in nature, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“I don’t think the head of our country would travel to Moscow if such a meeting were not planned. It is possible that the prime minister will meet in the format of prime ministers, given Armenia’s parliamentary system versus presidential systems elsewhere, but an official or working visit by a national leader cannot take place without such a meeting,” Simonyan said.

The World Atomic Week international forum, dedicated to the nuclear industry, will be held in Moscow from September 25–28. Pashinyan and Putin last met on August 31 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China.
