EU workshop in Yerevan focuses on judicial reform

On September 11–12, a workshop was held in Yerevan under the EU TAIEX instrument, presenting a report developed from the October 2024 expert mission on evaluating the careers of judges and prosecutors.

The opening remarks were delivered by Vassilis Maragos, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia. Participants included Supreme Judicial Council member Yeranuhi Tumanyants and Deputy Prosecutor General Lilit Grigoryan.

Anna Karapetyan praised the report and the work carried out by experts, stressing that the reform processes coordinated by the Ministry of Justice are ongoing and the ministry remains firmly committed to judicial reform.

Tigran Dadunts presented the ministry’s approach to the report’s recommendations and spoke about the preparation of draft legal acts aimed at addressing them.

The discussions focused on proposals concerning the independence, appointment, and performance evaluation of judges and prosecutors, among other key areas.

The workshop provided a platform for direct dialogue between participants and EU experts regarding both the report’s findings and the ministry’s policies.

On the second day, the agenda also included issues related to disciplinary responsibility, training, and career advancement of judges and prosecutors.
